I love a quick Ikea hack – one that can transform an item that we all have into a unique piece of furniture or decor. This project is so quick and brings some personality to the otherwise simple Lindrande round decor piece
I’d picked up the Lindrande during an Ikea trip a couple of months ago with the intention of immediately hacking it. My creativity was stalled though, and it took a couple of months before I got inspired. As I was scrolling Pinterest, I kept seeing organic shapes and textures, and knew that was the direction I wanted to go in for this piece.
This is a perfect project during these times – taking something in your home that you don’t quite love, and adding a bit of paint until you do!
The final product gives me boho meets industrial vibes! A perfect addition to my eclectic space. The base is such an upgrade, I love speckled ceramics, and this design lends well to that aesthetic.
Materials used
- Lindrande 8”
- FolkArt Acrylic Paint in Burnt Sienna and Wrought Iron
How I Hacked it
- Unscrew the hoop from the base and set aside the hoop
- Paint the base with your desired color. Let dry( you should be fine after about 30 minutes) and then paint a second coat. Let dry for about an hour.
- Screw the hoop back into the base and apply a generous, clumpy coat of Wrought Iron to the hoop. This coat should provide texture to the hoop, making it look handmade.
- Using your thumb on the paintbrush, speckle the base with Wrought Iron. Add a couple of drops of water for a more liquid consistency – this makes speckling easier and more even.
This project offers a subtle upgrade to one of Ikea’s well-known pieces of decor. What colors would you use on yours? Let me know in the comments!
