Wanting to bring a little life to my bedroom, I recently potted two little succulent arrangements, one a single succulent to bring a bit of green to my desk and a mini succulent garden.
A few years ago I made similar-sized arrangements, but they only lasted a few months. However, this go around, I learned from an expert, picking up a few pointers! Follow along and be sure to take these steps when potting your very own succulents.
Here are my new babies! Follow along the steps I followed to create these potted succulents.
STEPS
Pick out your plants and homes for your plants.
Layer a sizable amount of lava rocks along the bottom of your planter, followed by a thin layer of activated charcoal. These are your drainage layer and work to ensure your plants aren’t sitting in damp soil
Next, layer soil.
And then take succulents out of the containers they came in, shake off excess soil from around the roots, and then place them in the soil. I like to play around and try out different placements for each succulent until I find a design I like.
Pat them down, and fill in with more soil as needed.
I like to cover the topsoil with rocks. And for these plants, I used a beautiful jade color mix.
I found all of these plants at Succulence, an adorable shop in San Francisco! Check out this blog on my trip to the shop.
