DIY wrapping paper is a great way to give a gift a bit of personality! Rather than going the store-bought route, create wrapping paper that speaks to your style or the style of the person you’re giving the gift to. Using brown paper grocery bags and a sharpie pen I created a set of tribal/geometric prints to wrap my Mom’s Mother’s Day Gift.
Super versatile, using brown paper bag as wrapping paper gives you endless options! You can go with bright markers and make a kid-friendly design, or go minimalist with thin pens. I got inspiration by doing a couple google searches for simple patterns.
Wrapping Paper Supplies
- Brown paper bag
- Sharpie Marker
- Scissors
- String or ribbon
Steps
- Find the seam of the paper bag & cut along the seam from the opening to the bottom of the bag. This will ensure you get the largest continuous surface. Then cut the bottom of the bag off. You’ll be left with a long rectangle
- Pick a pattern and get to drawing! I like repetitive patterns, but you could definitely go more abstract.
And that’s it! After you finish drawing, you are ready to wrap your gifts. Two steps to create awesome, personalized wrapping paper that adds a custom element to any gift.
Let’s also not forget – wrapping your gifts in a custom designed paper is not only chic but also very cost effective! We all have a stash of paper bags and a few markers lying around, so in most cases creating this paper requires only an investment of your time.
I decided on mix and match paper for my Mother’s Day Gift for my mom, and I’m so happy she loved the paper.
