I’ve rarely used xoxojackie to share recipes, food is a big part of my life though, so I’m excited to begin incorporating more posts on this aspect of my life.
For much of my life I’ve been paleo – growing up in the bay area with a mom who loves vegetables, cooking, and clean eating, it wasn’t a label, but a way of life, it was really all I knew. Today I find myself bouncing between a paleo diet and a keto diet.
Growing up Paleo
This is so true that when I growing up, I thought rice crackers were dessert and I didn’t have fast food until well into my teens. Our diet consisted primarily of:
- Fish, chicken, and turkey
- Vegetables
- Healthy carbs like sweet potato, squash, barley, and lentils
- And lots of fruit
I’m so thankful for this upbringing and have naturally carried my eating habits into adulthood.
This has been helpful in keeping my weight low today and also was key in fueling my body as I ran track through college. I actually educated quite a few of my teammates, over the years, on how they could be eating cleaner for better performance.
Eating Clean Today
After a long run at healthy eating, my whole life, I’ll admit I took a break and pretty much ate anything I wanted to, this includes eating out a few days a week and fully indulging in my office’s free snacks and lunch. A year of that and my body was like, please stop! My wallet was also not happy with the frequent food and beverage bills, so back to my old ways I went.
I’m currently a couple weeks into keto and plan on maintaining this diet for some time and then moving back to a paleo diet. I love meat and veggies so both are diets that come pretty easy for me. But for folks who aren’t so into these, there are tons of meals that are easy to put together and satisfy your cravings. I’ve known healthy to be tasty, spicy, and full of flavor, so I look forward to sharing dishes that showcase my favorite flavors! Stay tuned as I share some of my staple keto and paleo dishes.
