I love making little updates to my space. Even the smallest things can make a pretty big impact in our small apartment! That’s definitely true with my latest project – a set of leather coasters with a strap to hold the set.
Swapping out a dated set of gold coasters for these timeless leather coasters was the perfect addition to my sofa side table
I love leather accents in homes. I added leather pulls to storage boxes and love the set of rope baskets with leather handles I have on my shelves. With that in mind, I wanted to add another leather element to my living room.
I found a vendor online who sells laser-cut leather circles. Perfect. I was going to attempt cutting circles myself – but this really simplified the whole project and gives my coasters a professional, polished appearance.
With the hard work already done, my project was how to create a simple holder to keep the coasters together when they aren’t in use. I went into the project with a bunch of materials and ended up making a game-time decision on what I was going to use and how I was going to use the materials of choice.

Steps for Leather Coaster Holder
- To measure the length of the holder, pull the leather strap until it’s taught around the stack of coasters, then clamp the strips together with your paper clips.
- Measure where your string will connect the ends of the leather. I measured 3/8” and drew a dot on either end. I then measured 3/4” and drew another dot, which should align with the dot on the opposite end.
- Next, I used my leather hole punch, on the smallest size, to create a hole over each of the 3 dots.
- I then threaded my twine through all three holes, holding it loosely.
- I applied a thin coat of gorilla glue between the two strips of leather, then smushed the two together, clamped the edges on both sides,
- And then tied the twine tightly on the inside of the, now circle of leather.
- I let the gorilla glue dry for about an hour before removing the clips and trimming off the excess twine.
Once dry, I slipped the holder around 6 coaters for a perfect, snug fit.
The contrasting leathers give the set an interesting quirk and just enough personality. I love the simple look of this set, but you could also pretty easily paint the leather, add stitching, or even stamp a fun word or monogram.
